Garrison Cultural Center is hosting a “Women in The Arts” Program at Garrison Center on Friday, May 3rd  at 6:30 PM. Two presenters who will be presenting their original works are:

Catherin Raine currently residing in Toronto Canada is a 1987 graduate of Liberty High School. She attended University in the United Kingdom in 1989 and resided there until 2002. Since that time she has made her home in Toronto where she works as an English Instructor and Tutor at Centennial College. Catherine's art journey began 12 years ago when she took a class called" Create Your Own Healing Deck" Since that time she has been developing a portfolio collage, mixed-media and photographic work. Her work has been featured in various galleries and libraries throughout Canada.  

Jasmine Ali focused on graphic design as a student and graduate of Missouri Western University. As a child Jasmine had a stroke and used her mastery of the Arts to compensate for the challenges it has presented. It pushes her to be the best. She says” I aim for my art to empower and I want people to feel some kind of emotion”. Jasmine is closely aligned with Art Tech of Kansas City, Missouri. Art Tech is a program, a strategy that helps young people to take their dreams and transform them into realities. Arts Tech's mission is to better the lives of underserved urban youth through the development of artistic, technical, health, and educational skills.

There also two other presenters who create their own art through collecting the works of others. Dr. Judy Dilts, Professor Emerita of Biology at William Jewell College, served as Associate Dean at James Madison University. Dr. Sylvia Nadler is a Professor Emerita of William Jewell College where she retired as Director of the Leadership Studies.

Dr. Dilts and Dr. Nadler who are serious collectors of art demonstrated their commitment to this idea in collecting their most recent piece of art by traveling to southwestern Virginia to garner this piece of Art that tells the "Story of The Middle Passage" The story of how millions of Africans came to the Americas in slave ships packed like cargo. We look forward to hearing this story that so powerfully impacted these two Liberty residents so much to drive more than 960 miles to South Carolina to secure it.

We are also very excited to hear the stories of the two play makers, Jasmine Ali and Catherine Raine, these creative personalities that are allowing their minds to open up to share what they have using their selected mediums.
