CCAAL, Inc. and Garrison School Cultural Center In the News

Tuesday, August 10 2021
The celebration begins, at 9:30 a.m., when CCAAL and the City of Liberty will host a ground-breaking for the Liberty African American Legacy Memorial at the Fairview Cemetery. This memorial, scheduled to be dedicated in 2022, will honor over 700 African Americans buried in Fairview Cemetery, mostly in unmarked graves. (https://www.libertylegacymemorial.org/)
Following the ground-breaking ceremony, we will caravan to Ruth Moore Park led by a drum line and musicians for the Bicentennial Juneteenth Freedom Celebration.
The event will begin at 11 a.m. at the Ruth Moore Park located at 401 Grover St, Liberty, MO 64068. During this combined Juneteenth/Bicentennial event, the CCAAL, in partnership with the City of Liberty, will dedicate historical markers to honor two of Liberty's past civic leaders: Ruth Moore, who served as chair of the 1954 Liberty Parks and Recreation Board, and for whom the park is named; and Sam C. Houston, the first African American city councilman and the founder of Liberty Juneteenth Celebrations.
We sincerely hope you will be able to join us at both ceremonies on August 21. The Juneteenth/Bicentennial celebration will include Citizen Recognition, entertainment, and vendors, including Unique Food Truck cuisine.
This year, we look forward to a special Juneteenth celebration and, once again, we reach out to our friends for the support to continue the Juneteenth tradition in Liberty.
