Garrison Cultural Center will join over a million readers in the Twenty-Seventh National African American Read-in. The program coordinator is local poet and playwright, Shelton Ponder, and the event is free and open to the public.

The keynote speaker, Archie Williams, is a member of the Kansas City Chapter of the Black United Front. He will speak on the Kwanzaa principle of  Kujichagulia (Self-determination). A potluck dinner will be held immediately before the program.

Garrison received one of the honorable mention cash awards for $250.00 that will be used for expenses associated with our project. Students in our ASEM program will be invited to participate in this project and any other Liberty high school students who may choose to sign up.

Proceeds from the program will benefit the Garrison Capital Improvement Campaign and support programming for elementary and high school students participating in the two major educational programs, LURP (Lion and Unicorn Reading Program and ASEM (Advanced Student Educational Mentoring).
